Project Title: Tailored Trousers – Cotton Tartan
Project Description:
These tailored trousers represent a technical exploration into the fundamentals of construction and fit. Through this project, I expanded my knowledge of tailoring by experimenting with darts, refining seam placements, and exploring multiple methods of pocket construction. The result is a garment that balances technical discipline with wearability, serving as both a study piece and a functional item of clothing.
For material, I sourced 100% cotton fabric from a local textile pickup—an approach that reflects my ongoing commitment to sustainability. This choice allowed me to work with a fabric that carried both personal resonance and environmental responsibility: a light cream base patterned with a thin brown tartan, a print that harmonizes beautifully with my broader theme of British heritage.
The trousers are designed with a relaxed yet refined silhouette—featuring a mid-rise waist, seamless pockets, and a fit that prioritizes comfort without sacrificing structure. The cut is intended for everyday wear: versatile enough to feel effortless, yet polished enough to maintain the presence of traditional tailoring.
The Tailored Trousers are not only a showcase of technical learning but also a reflection of design values. They embody the balance between heritage and modern comfort, between sustainability and style, and between the discipline of tailoring and the freedom of everyday living.
